چکیده
Background The global prevalence of diseases transmitted by Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, such as dengue, Zika and Yellow Fever, is increasing, but development promising new mosquito control technologies could reverse this trend. Target Product Profiles (TPPs) Preferred Characteristics (PPCs) documents issued the World Health Organization can guide research pathways products product combinations transitioning from proof concept to operational use. Methods We used high resolution maps case economic burden dengue derive programmatic cost targets support a TPP for Wolbachia replacement. A compartmental entomological model was explore how release size, spacing timing affect replacement speed acceptability. To PPC hybrid suppress-then-replace approach we tested whether be achieved faster, more acceptably or at lower if preceded suppression programme. Results show models reveal trade-offs, identify quantitative thresholds prioritise areas intervention strategies further development. estimate that deployable in enough make major contributions reducing 25% (in line with 2030 WHO targets), must ultimately reduced between $7.63 $0.24 (USD) per person protected less. Suppression, particularly interventions induce sterility, reduce the number mosquitoes necessary achieve fixation up 80%. also faster potentially improve acceptability, may not justify their they require investments technologies. Conclusions Here demonstrate value dedicated modelling provide interdisciplinary groups experts when developing TPPs PPCs. These developers shape decisions products.
